George Morrison was a wonderful father and friend who lived life well and gave generously to others with his talent and his treasure. He passed away at the age of 85 on December 3, 2012 after a run with prostate cancer.  Born in Kingman, Arizona December 17, 1926, George’s family soon moved to a farm in Welch, OK. At 17 years old, he and his mother and sisters relocated to Woody Creek, Colorado where soon he was drafted into the army. His sisters introduced him to Bernice Vagneur, (deceased); they married for a partnership of 59 years. George and his bride lived in Basalt where they started their family and soon moved to Glenwood Springs.
He was a sportsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping, and death-defying antics flying airplanes. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Kiwanis (past president), Lyons Club, Colorado Concrete Association (past president), and should have had frequent flyer miles at the Glenwood Golf Club (founder and board member). He loved volunteering and through the years he had been an ambulance driver, a driver for Meals on Wheels, and a bell ringer for the Salvation Army (Lyons Club).
George owned and operated businesses in Glenwood including Port-O-Mix Concrete, WM Equipment (Denver), Dotsero Block, and Dotsero Mobile Home Park Block. Through these businesses, his companies were fundamental in helping create many icons of the Roaring Fork, Aspen, and Vail valleys: The Hot Springs pool, Valley View hospital (a founder), Vail Ski Corporation, Aspen valley, Eagle/Gypsum area, Silt/Rifle area, and Summit Ski area.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on the eastern slope, in Englewood, Colorado at 2:00 pm on January 5 at First Universalist Church; 4101 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, CO  80222. On the western slope, we will be meeting in Glenwood Springs at 11:00 am; January 12 at the United Methodist Church, 824 Cooper. Receptions will be held immediately after services.
Family – George is survived by sister, Wanda Safe (Bob); Daughters Grace Love (Kurt); Carol Morrison; Diane McMahan (David); and son Brett Morrison.  Grandchildren include Nyssa Sutton (Sean), Veronica Love, Alexis Love, Myles McMahan, Tavis McMahan, Kristina McMahan, and Olin Morrison.  His great-grandchild is Asher Sutton. His cousins Loy Morrison and his sister Judy Messenger reside in Oklahoma.     Arrangements were made through Bullock Mortuary, www.Bullockmortuary.com.
Donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated in his name in lieu of flowers.  (donate.salvationarmyusa.org/).     Have a terrific day of golf in his honor.
