George Anema, Jr.
George Anema Jr., 93, of Denver was welcomed into glory on Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2015. George had been a resident at Clermont Park for two years.
George was born on May 18, 1922, to Winnie and George Anema. He attended Denver Christian Schools through eighth grade and graduated from South High School.
He joined the United States Navy during WWII where he served as an officer and flight instructor. Upon returning from the Navy he joined the family business and was a co-owner of A&K Auto Works for 42 years.
He married Miriam Lammers in 1947 and they were married for 13 years. In 1962 he married Wilma Bliek and they were married until her death in 2004. In 2005, he married Marcia Bayens.
George was a long time member of Third CRC where he taught Sunday school and catechism and served as both an elder and deacon. He was a strong advocate of Christian education, serving on the board at Denver Christian Schools.
In his younger years he was an avid duck hunter and fisherman. Later on he took up the game of golf (although you never asked his score). He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona where he was an active participant of West Valley Fellowship. He liked watching sports on TV, tending his roses and tomatoes, and hosting Saturday night burger gatherings. He loved spending time with family and friends. He celebrated life and his Christian faith with humor and a touch of class.
George was preceded in death by his wives Miriam and Wilma, son Paul Anema, son-in-law Wesley Masselink, sister Grace Van Alten, and brothers Andrew, Jay, and Jerry Anema. George is survived by his spouse Marcia and her children Dave (Annie) Bayens, Mary (Ric) Grummer, Sue (Neil) Williams, and Steve Bayens.
He is also survived by his brother Pete (Jan) Anema and sister Dorothy Triemstra. George’s surviving children are: Tim (Laura) Bliek, Mark (Leslie) Anema, Robin Masselink, Mary (Dan) Hybels, Ann VanHofwegen, and Peggy (Thais) Itela. Grandpa George leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
We mourn the absence of a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend but rejoice, knowing he is in heaven (singing in tune) with the angels for eternity.
Visitation will be held at the Bullock Colonial Chapel on Friday, August 28th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Private family graveside will be held at Hampden Memorial Gardens. Memorial services will be at the Third Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, August 29th at 11:00 A.M.
Family and friends are encouraged to share stories and photograph's here on George's website (click appropriate tab above).
We are sad that we cannot be with you to celebrate your dad's life on Saturday. It was long and not without hardships and loss. His warm smile and sense of humor engaged those of us who were fortunate to call him "Uncle." His zest for life and laughter were contagious. His testimony of Christ was always present. For these many things we praise God with you for His saint, now in heaven, George Anema. That was Winnie, this is Don. What I remember about Uncle George was his laughter as Winnie mentioned and I always sensed a certain mischievous undertone that was winsome. And of course he alway liked to communicate a touch of class in most everything he did or said, especially in how he dressed. Don and Winnie Klop
We are sorry to hear of your loss may you find peace in the fact that he now walks with his Lord Jesus Christ. Jim will always remember him as a classly gentleman.
