Fritz Macht

Francis Joseph Macht, known by most as Fritz, was born on December 6, 1928. The Lord called him home at 87 years old.

He was born in Sedgwick, Colorado to Gottlieb and Anna Stacia Macht. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

He grew up in Julesburg, CO and that is where he met the most beautiful woman in the world, Thelma Neve. They were married on September 24, 1950. He was drafted and reported for duty for the United States Army 12 days later on October 6^th. He was away for the first two years of their marriage.

After serving his two years in the Korean war, he returned home to Julesburg, and two years later Fritz and Thelma moved to Denver and he started working for Gooch Food Company. In the Spring of 1955 Thelma’s parent’s joined them in Denver. Shortly after that, Fritz got a job with the United States Post Office where he would later retire. They purchased their house in the Harvey Park area in 1956.

A couple years later, they realized how empty their house was. So they started the process of adoption. God blessed them by allowing them to adopt a baby boy in 1958. They adopted another baby boy in 1961, a baby girl in 1963, and the last baby girl in 1966. Their family was now complete, and their house was now their home.

Fritz attended First Christian Church of Englewood (now Englewood Bible Church) where for many years he had the privilege of serving as a Deacon and then an Elder for the congregation. He enjoyed many seasons coaching youth basketball, helping Thelma cook church dinners, attending and cooking at Summer youth camp, and volunteering as youth sponsor. If the church doors were open, you could probably find him there.

He worked as a mailman for 36 years before retiring in 1991. After retiring from the Post Office, he needed something to do, so he began driving the train at Belleview Park in 1992. Oh, how he loved driving “his” train, and enjoyed all those kids. With much sadness, he finally retired from doing that in 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Thelma, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Michelle Macht, son Greg Macht, daughter and son-in-law Mary and Rick Simoniello and daughter and son-in-law Julie and Mike Buck. He has 14 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by so many more whose lives he touched in one way or another.

Memorial services will be held at the Englewood Bible Church on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.
