Fredrick Francisco Sandoval

fredrick sandoval

Our beloved Fredrick “Fred, Little Fred, Freddy, Ferducci, Papa, Dad, Son, Cuz” Francisco Sandoval Jr., age 48, passed away on May 23, 2023.  Fred was born on July 26, 1974, to Joni Girardin and Fredrick Sandoval. Fred grew up in Commerce City, Arvada, and Oakland. He attended Swanson Elementary School, North Arvada Junior High School, De La Salle High School, and Mullen High School. Some of Fred’s best memories, and stories, came from his time at De La Salle because Fred was a natural born athlete. While at De La Salle, Fred competed on the swim team and football team where he played on the California northern state champion team and set a long-standing record in the breast stroke.  As a die-hard Raiders fan, the Bay Area was always one of Fred’s favorite places. His Junior year, Fred transferred to Mullen High School where he played football and wrestled. Mullen is also where he met his high school sweetheart, and future wife, Denise Kelly.

After attending Mullen, Fred enrolled at Colorado State University (“CSU”). Fred’s tenure at CSU was like none other. There, Fred helped lead the efforts to establish what is now the Chicano Studies Program. Fred was profoundly proud of his heritage and passionate about social justice. He was mentored by some of the most influential Chicano activists, including Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales and Ernesto Vigil, who he remained friends with long after his time in college. When Fred was not being a zealous Chicano advocate, Fred was tutoring members of the CSU football team and working various jobs in Fort Collins.

Fred was also a family man. During his Junior year at CSU, Fred and Denise welcomed their first of six children, Ramona. Shortly after Fred graduated from CSU with a degree in Microbiology and a minor in Mathematics, he and Denise had their second child, Francisco. After the birth of their third child, Reina, Fred and Denise decided to raise their family in Southwest Denver and purchased a home in the Harvey Park neighborhood where the family still lives today. While living in Harvey Park, Fred and Denise had their third daughter, Estella. Believe it or not, they were not done. Two short years later, the couple welcomed the last of their children, the twins, Manuel and Kevin. There was no one in the world Fred loved more than his children. Fred loved to boast about the accomplishments of his children, and he went out of his way to attend every sporting/academic event. He was always the loudest parent on the sidelines and the most anxious parent at Mock Trial competitions.

Sports were another big part of Fred’s life. Fred coached football and baseball for over twenty years and touched the lives of many athletes that played for the PAL Mustangs, Bear Creek High School, Bear Creek Little League, the PAL Redskins, and more. It was not uncommon for Fred to be stopped in the store by a former athlete that he had coached, and they always thanked him for the impact he had on their lives. Fight night was also an important day of the week to Fred, and there were few basketball or football playoff games he was willing to miss.

Fred also worked a lot. Throughout high school he worked at Giambrocco and had an internship relocating inventory from Stapleton airport to DIA. He worked for Rocky Mountain SER, Dr. Gilbert Vigil, had his own lawn aerating business, but most notable was his career in telecommunications. Fred started working at Qwest Wireless in 1998. He loved the call center life and was sent to Guanajuato, Mexico to train the employees there multiple times. Each time the company was acquired or merged, Fred made more friends. He eventually served as a Director at CenturyLink/Level III alongside his most trusted colleagues. Whether it be asking Fred to baptize your child, or to attend a Big Head Todd concert, Fred was going to do what he could to help. He was also always ready to have a good time. His dance moves spoke for themselves.

On his last day, Fred watched the Nuggets sweep the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals surrounded by friends and family. To no one’s surprise, in the last 18 hours of his life, over 70 individuals went to the hospital and paid their respects to the man we all loved and miss dearly.

Fred was preceded in death by grandfather Francisco Sandoval, grandmother Dorothy Sandoval, grandmother Antonia Girardin, and cousins Kerry Girardin Jr., Nathaniel and Anthony Sandoval. He is survived by father Fredrick (Rita) Sandoval, mother Joni (Dennis) Young, brother Derrick (Amber) Borrego, sisters Janelle (Dorian) Smith and Amanda Mares, daughters Ramona, Reina and Estella Sandoval, sons Francisco (Unity) , Manuel and Kevin Sandoval, grandsons Azriel and Francisco Sandoval Jr. and Amir and Emilio Mandragon, many aunts and uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, clients, and associates.

A rosary and memorial service for Fred will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 9:30 AM at Saint Bernadette Catholic Parish, 7240 W 12th Ave., Denver, CO 80214. Reception to follow.

Please send written condolences to the following address, 6396 Peacock Ct. Eastvale, CA 91752, in care of Ramona Sandoval.

  6. To my Son
Thank you for our younger years of life together. While reminiscing through your early years, I relived some of those amazing times…
1.. Dr. Fred and Dr. Pat Train thought they could remove brother Dericks cast from his arm. I walked in from work and there was a saw, hammer, ice pick, steak knife and scissors being used on the cast.. it didn't work!!
2.. Fred gave Derick a custom hair cut. For two months Derick had to wear a baseball cap until fully recovered. Fred told him he looked great…
3.. Grandpa Frank and Fred worked on a dirt bike in our garage everyday.. Fred decided to sneak the bike out of the garage and push it down the street and start it to drive around the park.. A car hit him while he was pushing the bike.. I looked out of my front room window and watched an ambulance and firetruck flying down the street. I heard the little neighbor kids screaming Freddy Freddy. And I took off running to the ambulance. I hear a voice laughing – hey mom over here… He was being check by the medics.. Bike did not make it..
Between the ages of 6 and 13 you were either in Twain Kwan Do (black belt), football or the swim / diving team for the rec center. You never knew what second place was. Everything you participated in you place number one!!
You had a photographic memory.. you never had to take notes in school, you remembered everything.
I'm proud to be your mom.. Thank you for the awesome times and amazing memories..
    I love you!!!

Although you are no longer physically with us, your spirit lives on in the lives of all those you touched. I am honored to have had the privilege of working under your leadership, and I will carry the lessons and memories we shared forever.

Rest peacefully, dear Fred, knowing that your legacy of support and inspiration will continue to shape the lives of those you influenced. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

    With heartfelt appreciation,
Jayesh and Family (from the other side of the Ocean, India)

  8. Little Fred
You have been taken from this earth way too early but you are in Heaven now with Our Lord and Savior. Your body whole again without any pain or affliction there to watch over your family as they grow keeping them safe as their angel. My deepest sympathies go out to your family. They are in my thoughts and prayers. You were loved and admired by many and your memory will live on through all of us. The person who play for me On a Sunday Afternoon. “We were chillin in the park waiting for the sun to go down. It was me Shylo and the homies. A Lighter Shade of Brown.” 🥹
    Rest In Peace!! Cousin Freddy!!

  9. So sorry to hear about the loss of your father, Fred. I worked with him at Level3 in Customer Care and Project Management organizations. He loved doing his best for our customers. Here's to a life we'll lived that touched so many.
    Regards
    Marcy OToole

  10. We're not very good at this…these were some of the first words I heard from Fred when he was a CCM at Level3 and I was in the LNP group handling one of his customer's porting orders. A few days later he was down at my desk at the request of his manager to apologize. 🙂 And a short time later he was applying to be manager of that same LNP team. A move that I fully supported as it was clear he was motivated and had the skills to lead that team and make it better! He was one of the best managers I have had in my 18 years with Level3 and will be sorely missed, both professionally and personally! He was a beacon of light in everything he did. From those of us who worked with him during his LNP tenure we extend our sincere condolences to your family. May he rest in peace!

  11. Boy, I don't even know what to say. May you rest in peace in God's arms. I want to thank you for making Sirena smile and she was so happy to see you. You made her final hrs happy. Thank you for that. Freddie You will be missed by so many. Your legacy will go on with your children and grandbabies. May you rest in peace.

  12. I hadn't seen Fred since around 2008, maybe 2009 and went by his place after going to see my daughter who lived about a mile away. He wasn't home and I was insure if he still lived there so I left a note. He replied and we saw each other 3 times at the most, but he called with great frequency until around November 2022. He mentioned health problems but gave few details and the calls and text messages stopped. I had a sense of foreboding and will leave it at that, but two of his older friends, Esequiel "Kelly" Lovato and I, once told him that he had all the qualities to be a great community organizer like one man he greatly admired. There are many things that could have been accomplished but never are. We all have felt the loss of this very gifted person. I became sick with a very sever allergic reaction and was only able to get out of bed yesterday for a few hours and cannot attend his services.

  13. I was shocked and very sad when I heard the news last week. Fred and I worked together for years and was a trusted colleague that brought tons of energy and passion that was infectious to all around him and prided himself on doing things right! I will miss the bantering back and forth we had especially during football season when the Raiders and Chiefs would play! We had great times away from work and I will cherish the memories. My thoughts and prayers are with Fred and the whole family! Until we embrace again my friend, God bless you.

  14. Little Fred
I first met you at CSU. You were like no other student. You wore your passion on your sleeve. The love for Chicano (anything) was large. My respect and love for you will always remain. Until we meet again.

  15. Fred, carnal, you left a mark in my brain and in my heart. You were filled with so much passion and drive and your infectious energy always elevated any room that you walked into. We had such great times at work and we carried that fun in some epic happy hours. That flight back from Seattle after meeting with Starbucks was the most fun I had on a plane, we laughed and yapped all the way to Denver. I always admired your burning torch full of love for your kids, family and friends. I know in the afterlife that torch will still be lit and you carnalito will continue to light up the lives that you touched for ever…your "mentor" and friend Omar🙏❤️…

  16. We were deeply saddened to hear of Fred's passing; he was a great inspiration to so many friends and especially to his dear family. Our sympathy is felt so deeply for Fred's family. Jim and I want the family to know that Fred's passing will always remain in our hearts. May your family find comfort and peace in God's Mercy. God Bless all of Fred's family, Jim and (Chris) Chevarria

  17. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. 🙏🏻 His life on earth has come to an end but his journey has just begun. May God wrap his loving arms around you and comfort you with his peace and healing.
