Evelyn Margaret Gallagher
October 24, 1919 ~ February 13, 2012
Evelyn Margaret Gallagher Evelyn Margaret Williams was born on Oct. 24, 1919 to John Dee Williams and Agnes E Williams (Caddy) on an Indian Reservation in Crow Heart Wyoming. Evelyn was the oldest of six daughters and is survived by her sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Johnston, Helen Geraud, Joanne Reding, Theresa (Tess) Holliday and Sharon Lewis. Evelyn grew up in Riverton Wyoming and graduated from Riverton H.S in 1937. She moved to Denver CO in 1938 to attend St Joseph's Hospital Nursing School and graduated in 1939. While in nurses school she met Charlotte and Dorrie Gallagher. Then she met their brother who would become her future husband. She met and fell in love with John L (Lewie) Gallagher and they married on Feb. 6th, 1942 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton Wyoming. During WWII, John was in the Army from 1942 to 1946 and Evelyn lived with him at various army base towns during those years until he was stationed on Guam near the end of the war, at which time she returned to Riverton WY. Evelyn was the mother of eleven children. Her first child, John T was born in Salina, KS in 1943. Kathleen (Kathy) M was born in Salina, Ks in 1944. After moving back to Denver after the war they had 9 more children. The children and spouses are; John T Gallagher & Brandy, Kathleen M Inman & Stan, David M Gallagher &Tolline, Linda A Keyes & Doug, Sharon T Berner & Dan, Brian D Gallagher & Susie, Kevin L Gallagher & Meredith , Christine E Taylor & Tony, Eileen M Anderson & Jeff, Erin E Knight & Rick, and Rosemary R Sapegin & Scott. John and Evelyn raised their children in a house in northwest Denver that John built himself with the help of friends and family. The family moved into the house in 1956. After John's passing in Feb. 1988, Evelyn continued to live in the house with her sister Betty until May 2010, at which time she moved into the home of her son Brian and his wife Susie. Brian, Susie and her daughter Catrina cared for Evelyn with much love and adoration until her passing on Feb. 13, 2012. While living with them Evelyn also got to share her love with Daisy, a Chihuahua puppy that returned her love and was her constant companion. Daisy filled Mom's natural role as a loving, nurturing mother. Evelyn is survived by nine of her eleven children. She has 33 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and 1 great-great grandchild. Evelyn was also very active in the Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a parishioner at Holy Family Church for over 70 years. Through this connection to the church, she was able to care for other parishioners who needed help in their homes. She became not only their caregiver but their friend for life. After raising her children, this gave her the chance to return to her love of nursing and caring for others. She positively impacted the lives of anyone who met her through her love and compassion for her fellow man and her love of God. Besides helping others, she had a joy for life and expressed this love through her happy personality, her love of music and dancing and loving and caring for her children and her grandchildren, as well as anyone in need. She always put others first. She raised all of her children to be good Christians and good people. Our mother was deeply respected and loved by everyone who knew her. She lived a long, healthy and fulfilling life and she will be deeply missed by all of us. MOM WE LOVE YOU. REST IN PEACE. In Lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Mom's favorite cancer charity, St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or to Hospice of Denver for the excellent and compassionate care they gave to Mom and to the family.
