On Friday, June 14, 2024, we lost a beloved soul as Ernest Andrew Mares, aged 91, passed away. Ernest was born to Amelia and Ernest Mares Sr. in Colorado on December 10, 1932. He grew up alongside his siblings Dennis, Victor, Patricia, and Frances. Ernest attended St. Joseph High School in Denver, where he discovered his passion for boxing. His determination and spirit led him to enlist in the army, and he bravely fought in the Korean War, earning himself the prestigious Purple Heart for his sacrifices. Upon returning home, he found love and companionship in Rose Dorothy Lucero, and they shared a beautiful union from 1955 onwards.
Ernest dedicated 35 years of his life to Hicks Denver before transitioning to a new chapter at the Denver Post Office at the age of 53. He served diligently until his well-deserved retirement. In his free time, Ernest found solace in his garage, surrounded by his treasured tools, and he enjoyed regaling others with his vivid stories.
The loss of his brothers Dennis and Victor and his son Larry weighed heavy on Ernest’s heart. However, he is survived by his loving wife Rose, his sons Alan, Timothy, Andre, and Sean, as well as a loving array of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish Ernest’s memory.
