May 8, 1969 ~ October 24, 2024
Eric Olson, a devoted father, passionate outdoorsman, skilled poker player, and courageous firefighter, passed away on October 24, 2024, at the age of 55. Born on May 8, 1969, Eric grew up surrounded by a loving family and developed a deep love for fishing, boating, and spending countless hours on the water. Whether it was casting a line in a quiet cove or navigating the waves, Eric found joy and peace on the water, and his adventures created lasting memories for all who joined him.
Eric was also an avid lover of games, particularly poker. Whether it was a friendly home game with family or a night at the casino, Eric thrived in the thrill of the game. His sharp wit and strategic mind made him a formidable player, but it was his ability to connect with people, share laughs, and make the most out of every hand that truly defined his love for the game.
For 17 years, Eric served as a firefighter and first responder, dedicating himself to protecting his community with bravery and selflessness. His colleagues and those he helped will remember him as a steady and reliable presence in times of need. Eric’s commitment to his work and his willingness to put others first defined much of his life.
Eric is survived by his children, Katie (Dennis McGrath), Kiefer (Lindsey Olson), Dylan (Ali Olson), and Karey, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his parents, David and Judith Olson; his sisters, Kathee (Greg Jones) and Anna (Adam Goodworth); his brother, Ivan (Lynette Olson); and his beloved grandchildren, Kip, Kyla, Danaeley, Ryett, and Wrenley Olson. Eric is also remembered by his wide circle of friends and family who were touched by his kind heart, sarcastic nature, and his love of games—whether they were on the water fishing, at the poker table, or simply enjoyed with those closest to him.
Though he faced challenges in life, Eric always remained a source of support for those around him, and his laughter, sarcasm, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten. He had a way of making those close to him feel seen, valued, and appreciated, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Eric’s life, where friends and family will gather to share stories, offer condolences, and celebrate his legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to organizations that support first responders and outdoor activities for youth, causes close to Eric’s heart.
May Eric’s memory live on in the stories we share, the adventures we take, and the games we play.
Guestbook
I met Eric at DJ’s Pizza Pantry in Applewood many years ago. Eric and I would often hang out or just cruise around in his Chevrolet Caprice. Those were good times. I will miss Eric. Be at peace my old friend.
I met Eric through DJ’s Pizza back in the 80’s. Always enjoyed working with him and hanging out after work. He was always a character, we all had a great time working together, I often think back to those great times! He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.
