Elisabeth Petronella de Groen

November 13, 1914 ~ February 21, 2007
In loving memory
Elisabeth Petronella de Groen
Nov 13, 1914 - Feb 21, 2007
Elisabeth was born in Eindhoven Holland, November 13, 1914. She met Jake deGroen in Rotterdam and they married January 29, 1941. They were married for 66 years. She had three sons and three daughters; Bertje, Jerry, Sjani, Tony, Ellie, and Cobi.
In 1954, while in their late thirties, they move to the "land of opportunity," the United States with five children ranging in ages from 3 1/2 to 12 years.
Elisabeth learned the language; she learned to drive and became independent in no time. She and her husband both worked and raised their family.
When her husband retired at age 62, Elisabeth retired also. They joined a health club and made many new friends. The club became a big part of their lives. They went faithfully every day.
Family ties were very important, and Elisabeth raised her family to be a close net family. Elisabeth lost her father when she was 3 and her mother when she was 34. Her husband was the oldest of fifteen children and she had one brother. This is why family was so important to Elisabeth for she did not have her family for long. Her family was her whole life.
She will be missed very much; by her whole family, she was the glue that kept this family together. She will also be missed by all her friends who had the opportunity to get to know her.
She is survived by her husband Jacob DeGroen, son Lambertus (Tony) DeGroen, daughters Sjani Hollman and Cobi Chaney; Son-In-Laws Terry Breslin and Doug Chaney. 10 Grandchildren Jim Breslin, Julie Breslin, Paul Chaney, Sheila Chaney, John Jacob de Groen, Michael de Groen, Laurie de Groen, David Smith, John Smith, June Smith (Anderson) and 20 Great Grand children.
Graveside services Monday, February 26, 2007, 1:30 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery.
