Eileen D. Ragan

eileen ragan

Eileen Doris Ragan passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior on Wednesday, March 8, 2018, with her husband of sixty-seven years, Wally, and many family members at her side.  Eileen also leaves behind two sons, Wallace Ragan, Jr. (Joan) of Washington, DC and David (Mary) of Centennial, CO; a third son, Stephen, predeceased her.  She also leaves beloved grandchildren, Greg Ragan of Springfield, MO and Denise (Dr. Peter) Gala of Monument, CO, Ed, Tina (Ryan), and Heather Yost; seven cherished great-grandchildren (Jessica and Levi Ragan, Hannah, Isabellah, and Zechariah Gala, Sophia and Owen Edwards); and a dear niece and nephew, Marcia and Craig Cunningham (Richard Freiman).

Eileen was “born and raised in Denver” to second generation Swedish parents, Carl and Lillian Sellman.   The Swedish Evangelical Free church was a focal point in Eileen’s, her parents’, and her sister Jean’s life.   Having graduated from South High School in 1947, she met ex-Marine band and Big Band saxophonist Wally Ragan at bowling in 1948.  “Stinky” and “Flossie” were married in 1950, living most of their years together in Denver, Arvada, and Aurora (with a four-year interval in Oklahoma City, OK and Boise, ID).  Between bearing and rearing her three sons, Eileen worked at Mountain States Telephone, Continental Oil Co. and then at Frontier Airlines.  Eileen dearly loved her family, was a welcoming and devoted friend to many (humans and pets), and she loved entertaining.  Her girlhood interest in fashion design became a lifelong love of style and beautiful things, later resulting in two “Waleens’” antiques and collectibles shops (with countless unsold items stored at their home!)  Twenty years at Frontier provided many opportunities for travel with family and friends, which Eileen relished and often recalled.  Her family, however, was Eileen’s main devotion in life.  Amidst so many of God’s blessings, the loss of second son Steve at age twenty was a great sorrow for Eileen and her family.  Dave’s and Wally’s marriages further added to Eileen’s blessings, enhanced by two grandchildren, Greg Ragan and Denise Gala, and five great-grandchildren, Jessica and Levi Ragan, Hannah, Isabellah, and Zechariah Gala.  Step-grandchildren added even further to her joy.  Eileen’s generous and loving nature, thoughtfulness and sincere devotion to family and friends will be always cherished and greatly missed.

  1. We're going to miss Eileen more than words can say. My mind  knows she's in a much better place but my heart doesn't understand that & wants her with us again. My prayers are for peace, comfort, & healing for everyone who had the pleasure of having Eileen in their corner of friends. However, to me, she was family & meant more than I could have ever hoped to have. Love to you Eileen, Wally, & your entire family who are so blessed to have you as their matriarch.  I love you.
