October 25, 1934 ~ February 14, 2020
An only son entered the world and was cherished. All the days of his life he stood for humanity, goodness, and what was right; no matter the pain or ridicule that followed. He did not give attention to or fuel unkindness. Only a man of the strongest character could show the love, patience and kindness that he did. Curse words did not leave his mouth and he cringed when others did. Country and family first is how he lived his life.
The respect he had for his wife, the love of his life, Erika, was unparalleled. Sons and daughters alike were welcome to partake in anything he was doing. He mentored us and we flocked to his side and adored him, in anything he was doing. He was influential because he did not try to influence others. He focused on living his life well.
Even when he was robbed of his intellect and memories, his heart and personality remained. He still brightened the days of those around him with music, dance and prose by using the words that remained in his vocabulary.
The Air Force and Nasa were merely vehicles for his gifts and goodness to circle the earth, and go to the moon and back. A brilliant mind and shining star on the earth; maybe he pursued understanding the stars to better understand himself. Then, on Feb. 14, 2020, he became the perfect valentine for the hosts of heaven. It will take all of us, together, to carry on your legacy. We love you.
