Dorothy L. Sack

dorothy sack

On a quiet warm Saturday evening on August 12, 2017, Dorothy L Sack peacefully passed away lovingly surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on December 4, 1932 to Balthaser and Katherine Hepp. Her brothers Robert, Don, Tommy, Larry along with her sister Shirley survive her. Dorothy went to school in Mead, Colorado, graduated there and later married George R. Sack in Brighton at St. Augustine Church on February 12, 1955 which was also the 25th Anniversary for Dorothy's parents.

Dorothy and George farmed together around the Brighton area for a number of years. They quickly grew their family starting with daughter Carol and soon added sons Michael, Ronald and William (Bill). They then added another daughter Donna along with son Gerald (Jerry) and then daughter Melissa completed the family. The family moved to Broomfield a short time later when George went to work for the Colorado State Highway. They lived in their Broomfield home until they moved to their current home at Applewood Our House Memory Care in Lakewood a little over 1 1/2 years ago.

While raising their children Dorothy at times worked various jobs, but by far the favorite and longest was at the Broomfield Library. She loved to read (especially mysteries) and this was shared by most of her children. Work however did not define who Dorothy was. She also enjoyed movies, music, video games of all sorts (Does Zelda ring a bell?), gardening, and cooking. Her hobbies also included every sort of craft you can think of including creating porcelain dolls, crocheting jewelry with beads, any crochet project, sewing and stitchery but her greatest passion was always her children and grandchildren. She loved babies and always said that they loved her too. It was a good thing she loved grandchildren because she was blessed with 11 beautiful grandchildren starting with grand-daughter Amanda followed by Michael, Robert, Ronnie, Andrew, Adam, Elise, Kera, Kristen, Kyah and finally Haley. These grandchildren were her everything.
Recently Dorothy and George's first great grandchild Olivia joined the family. We have all picked up where mom left off and cherish our little Olivia who turned 1 this year.

Our family has had laughter, fears, anger and tears over the years. At times we fought but always hugged again thanks to our mom who was the center of our family. The recent years have been difficult losing our mom's memory to Dementia, but we have pulled together as our mother taught us, to care for her and dad. Not perfectly, but mom said she didn't do it perfectly either but instead with her whole heart. Mom showed us the truth behind God's love and that is forgiveness. I would like to say we will never argue again but that won't happen so instead we will continue to remember what mom taught us and that is to forgive and continue to love each other. She is also survived by 2 wonderful son-in-laws both named Dan, Melissa's boyfriend Mike who really is like family and her special daughter-in-law Barb, numerous nephews and nieces and many other family members.

We have all been privileged to know, be loved by, and to love Dorothy. She truly was blessed, and we in turn for sharing her life. While we are all sad at losing her, we are relieved her fight with this illness is over. She went gently in the night and left behind a legacy of love. Her story does not end here but continues with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and on and on.
Dorothy you will be missed. We love you very much.

Flowers may be sent to the church on 8/23/17or a donation can be made in Dorothy's memory to the Dementia Society of America by mail to PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901, or online at http://www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
