Doris Jeanne Harsh
June 21, 1936 ~ September 13, 2017
Doris Jeanne (Dearing) Harsh, age 81, died Wednesday September 13, 2017, with her husband by her side, at their home on South Ivy Way in Denver.
She was born on June 21, 1936 in Jefferson City, Mo., to parents Emmett L. Dearing and Edna Mae (Rustin) Dearing. She was the third of four daughters including Laura Josephine Dearing, Marion Louise Dearing and Phyllis LaRue Dearing. Her parents and three sisters preceded her in death.
Doris attended Jefferson City public schools and graduated high school in 1954. She attended the University of Missouri and graduated from the University of Denver with a BA.
Doris was a generous and loving stay-at-home mother who later became the bookkeeper and secretary for the family business, Chris Rebuilders Inc., which the family owned from 1977 to 1997.
She developed a love of singing and harmonizing with her three sisters as a child growing up in Missouri, and later performed and competed with the Skyline Chorus, the Denver-based chapter of Sweet Adelines International.
Legend has it that a certain red MG sports car and a striking green dress helped to spark the lifelong love between Doris and Jerry H. Harsh with whom she became engaged after dating for three weeks. They married in 1957 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Known as "Dodo" to her family, Doris is survived by husband Jerry, two children, Samuel H. Harsh and Joslyn D. Axinn, and three grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at The Denver Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care during the final weeks of Doris's life.
A time and place for a memorial service will be announced to friends and family.
