Dee was the youngest child born to Donald Friedkin and Barbetta J. King (now Bobbi J. King) in Kingston, New York on April 10, 1964 She was very intelligent an excellent student all throughout school. She played the clarinet and did that so well her parents wound up getting her private lessons because she was bored (everyone else was too far behind). Dee graduated high school at Fauquier High School in Warrenton, Virginia in 1982. She was in the Army Reserves until she received a medical discharge. Dee spent some time as a buyer for a food service distributor there in Virginia. Dee and her son Jeremy moved to Colorado in 1994, and Debbie became her partner on February 18, 1994. In 1999 Dee received an Associates Degree in Information Technologies from College of America and was valedictorian of her class. She most recently worked at SS&C Technologies as a web developer until the disease forced her to leave. It is no surprise that Dee excelled in most everything she did. She was excellent at her hobbies/sports of billiards and poker. She belonged to a motorcycle group and absolutely loved riding in the mountains with her friends. Dee lived life to its fullest. She had a wonderful wit, was as honest as they come, and loved going to concerts and eating good food. She sky-dived twice with her sister Diane and did a solo jump as well after that. She traveled to Europe a couple of times and last summer did a motorcycle ride to Wyoming with friends before the disease kept her from her passion of riding. Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The word "scleroderma" comes from two Greek words: "sclero" meaning hard, and "derma" meaning skin. Hardening of the skin is one of the most visible manifestations of the disease. The disease varies from patient-to-patient. See, http://www.scleroderma.org Dee started having symptoms of the disease in May of 2011. Scleroderma is difficult to diagnose and it took until the fall of 2011 to do just that. Unfortunately Dee was one of the worst case scenarios and had the systemic version which spread throughout her whole body. For more information and to make a donation in her memory, please visit http://www.scleroderma.org. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Community Church, 8001 W. 23rd Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado. There will be a celebration of her life immediately following at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, at 4005 Kipling Street in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to scleroderma.org as noted above. Thank you.
