Donald R. Gavito
September 4, 1937 ~ May 10, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Richard Gavito announces his passing after a valiant struggle, on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the age of 80 years. Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kay, and his children, Dino (Jutta), Gina (Doug), and Vince (Danielle). Don will also be missed by his co-conspirators in mischief, his seven grandchildren, Christina, Tori, Garet, Gianna, Gabrielle, Demitri, Dominic, two great grandchildren, Vincent and Elias, his sister, Gloria (Dave) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was a police officer, professional pilot, flight instructor, and designated flight examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was selected to be the original pilot of the first Denver Police Department helicopter in 1968 and remained the chief pilot for 22 years. When not in the air he spent his time on construction projects, pouring miles of cement, woodworking, hunting, fishing and flying model airplanes. He never lost his love for chasing after clouds.
