Donald John Soder

Donald J. Soder, 76 born March 26, 1932 in Washington, KS., passed away April 16, 2008. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Lee of 51 years; his daughter and son-in-law Terri and Jerry Newton; their children Matt, Kaley and Kristin; daughter and son-in-law Patty and Dan Mayberry; their children Brian, Kyle, Katlin, and Ashley; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Cindy Soder; their children Zachary and Will.

Don was first of all a loving husband, caring father and devoted grandfather. He was a successful sales person, having spent 39 years with General Mills, Inc. and was well respected buy all those business contacts and co-workers he dealt with.

He enjoyed spending time at home with his family, putting up a swing set for them when they were young, taking them fishing when they were older and going bike riding. His children especially enjoyed the many trips they took to Aspen and Snowmass, Colorado.

Some of his greatest passions were small game hunting, fishing, gardening and playing golf. Other times his hands were to be found at some video poker machine. He and Lee made several trips to California, and on the way back home to Denver would stop in Mesquite, Nevada to play at the casinos.

It was a joy for them to do some traveling after their retirements, going to Texas, then on through the Gulf Coast states enroute to Florida and also later to Georgia.

His recent illnesses set him back for some time, but he was confident he would regain his strength so he could once again enjoy his usual outdoor activities. He gave a valiant effort, but it seemed to be God's will to call him home.

Sometimes we forget to realize just how precious our relationships are. God was kind enough to give us this wonderful man for so many beautiful years. Selfishly we wanted him to stay and be with us. We will miss him greatly, but are comforted that he is with the Lord celebrating his eternal life. We also know that we will all see him as he welcomes us into the gates of heaven.

A mass will be held at Pax Christi on Tuesday, April 22 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Fort Logan at 2:30. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association in his honor.

We little knew that morning, that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

For all of you who were blessed to know him, we thank God for that every day.
