Donald C. Harris
On 17Jul 2019, Donald Carl Harris aka Dad, Daddy, Carl, Charlie, DC "Dirty Don" (his USAF Thunderbird call sign), The Lone Ranger, passed peacefully in his home to be with God.
Don was born on the 4th of December 1941 in Denver, Colorado to the parents of Don and Elaine Harris.
He is survived by his loving and devoted Daughter Janet Harris-Weltch, his Son-in-law Sean Weltch, his ex-wife and close friend Meredith Shurts, his 3 Grandchildren Brittany Dawn Lucero, Kerry Weltch, and Kristina Weber, his Great Grandchildren Michala, Bryce, Alana, Faith and Malachi, also his Beloved English Cream Retriever Service Dog "F-100 Super Sabre (Sabre)."
Don finished his school years at South High School, in Denver. He then volunteered into the United States Air Force. After basic training, he was approached by the Thunderbird Commander and asked to join the elite Air Demonstration Squadron the USAF Thunderbird's. He served with Honor, Loyalty and Distinction from 1960-1963.
In 1964 Don joined The Denver Police Department. After the academy he was assigned to District 3. He then joined DPD Traffic Operations where he served with honor and became a Motorcycle Training Officer which he was dedicated to training the best motorcycle riders in the country. Don also was awarded "The Medal of Honor" for demonstrating personal courage and devotion to duty at the risk of his own life during an incident in 1969.
After 26 years of service to the DPD he retired and moved to California where he worked in Hollywood as a Transportation Specialist and then a Transportation Captain. Don only retired and came home to Denver after his Daughter Janet had a near fatal brain hemorrhage. Wanting to be closer he moved home to his house and property in Parker, Co where he lived out his remaining years with his family, his dogs, the deer, and the beautiful sunsets
