Donald Alan Matoush Don was born in Chicago Illinois on July 23, 1949 to Joseph and Elsie Matoush. After attending Drake University in Des Moines Iowa, Don completed his undergraduate courses at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO. It was on a family vacation when he was a youngster that Don first fell in love with Colorado. After college graduation he decided that he wanted to make Colorado his home. After a brief stint working for Target in Ft. Collins Don moved to the Denver area and worked for Washington Inventory Service. It was while working at WIS that he met his first wife Diane. Early in career, Don took a job with Skaggs Drug chain as a management trainee. He soon worked up the ranks and later was appointed Assistant General Manager. Retail sales however was not what Don wanted to do as a career; so in the late 80's he obtained a Master Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado at Denver. After obtaining his advanced degree Don accepted a position as the Town Planner in the small town of Lincoln, NH. Although this decision did not turn out as Don had planned, Don, Diane and Hilary enjoyed their sojourn in New England. After returning to Lakewood, Don worked in a variety of occupations.
