DM Monte
1947-2015
Born Doris Monte in Somerville, Massachusetts, DM and her family came to Englewood, Colorado in 1952.
A graduate of Englewood High School in 1964, she moved to San Diego and began attending college while working on Lyndon B. Johnson’s Economics Opportunity Program.
In 1966, DM transferred to Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado where she was elected Student Body Secretary and Senior Class Secretary, and earned several other honors. She also continued to work tirelessly to help others, and took on several roles in support of Robert Kennedy’s Presidential campaign, as well as Peter Dominick’s campaign to represent Colorado in the US Senate. In 1970 she graduated with a degree in English and Political Science.
Upon her return to Englewood, DM taught in the Englewood Public Schools for several years. In 1972 she married and gave birth to her only son before starting a career with Fashion Bar where she worked in a number of interesting positions as the business grew. In the 1980s she began a career with the government and returned to school to earn her degree in Accounting, and eventually took a position with the Federal Government overseeing the payment and purchases on the F-16, the F-14, and numerous other high value defense accounts before taking a new position as a Management Analyst in Personnel Management which often took her across the country and overseas.
DM Retired from the government after 30 years of service and remained in the Englewood area so that she could attend to what was most important to her: The people she loved.
Her dedication to learning, to enjoying life, to loving others, and to helping anyone who was in need left an indelible mark on our community and our lives.
She is survived by her sister Anna Marie, her brother Tony, and her son GW as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She has made the world a better place, and she will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at the Bullock Colonial Chapel on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.
I worked with DM for years at DFAS. Will not be in town for the service, but would very much like to connect with the family. Can't find anything with an address or contact information. Please Email or call me: Katrina_0851@att.net or 303-960-5514.
Thank you, Kat Brooker
So sad to hear about DM. It was my pleasure to work with her with the Federal Government. She was always friendly and full of life. Always made my day better. She many times made the coolest doodles. God bless you DM and my sincere sympathies to her family.
