David Johnathan Gwinn
David "Doc" Gwinn passed away suddenly after being involved in a motorcycle accident on Friday, July 14th, 2017 in Colorado. He is survived by his beautiful wife Amanda; mother Jackie Heffington (Mark Callihan); father T.J. Gwinn; siblings Luke, Mandi, Natalie and Kassidy; step-mom Karyn Gwinn; Grammy Mary Isenhart; and many loved aunts, uncles and cousins.
David grew up in Arvada, Colorado and attended Stott and Campbell elementary schools, Oberon Middle School and Arvada West High School. In high school, David was a competitive swimmer and after graduating continued to coach swimming at Standley Lake High School, Arvada West and Red Rocks Country Club. David's Grandpa Jack, who passed away shortly after he graduated from high school, influenced his love for baseball. This love for baseball continued on throughout Amanda and David's relationship, taking them as far as Wrigley Field for a game. It was obvious that Grandpa Jack was David's idol especially when you saw his dedication tattoo. David cherished every moment spent with his Grandpa and Grammy.
In 2007, David enlisted in the Navy and became a Navy Corpsman, attached to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, Echo Company. His brothers affectionately called him "Doc". David had a fierce heart and loyalty to those he served with. He was a protector that went above and beyond by serving our country and risking his life in Afghanistan. After being honorably discharged, David volunteered for many causes and earned his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. While coaching the Red Rocks Country Club swim team, David became the Country Club Events Coordinator and then moved on to Select Energy Services. David was highly regarded by peers and co-workers alike.
David met his wife Amanda when they were both in high school. They were married October 11, 2014, in Conifer, Colorado and began to build their life together by purchasing a home. Their home was always filled with many friends, family and their beloved dog Samson.
Graveside service for David Johnathan Gwinn "Doc" will be Friday, July 21st at 10am at Mountain View Cemetery at 620 11th Ave, Longmont, CO. Following the service there will be a celebration of life at Veteran Brothers Brewing Company at 21 N. Parish in Johnstown, CO. Manda has said that motorcycles are welcome and we ask that you not wear black (unless it's your cut). Casual clothing is also acceptable, as we all know David would have wanted us to be comfortable. Manda also asks that instead of mourning, we gather to celebrate the life of her beautiful soul mate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations, in David Gwinn's honor to:
Semper Fi Fund at https://semperfifund.org/donate/
