David "Dave" Roberts

David Roberts was born on July 16, 1952, and passed away on May 27, 2011. He was 58 years old, and a retired police officer. David was forced to retire from the Denver Police Department after being shot point-blank in the face by a suspect he was arresting on March 29, 1985. The shooting left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. David was well-known for his sense of humor and his desire to help others in need. After leaving the police department, he volunteered for the Rocky Mountain Brain Injury Center and taught a police safety course. He leaves behind a daughter, Jennifer Wedeking, 32, of Switzerland, a brother, Duane (Cindy) Roberts of Highlands Ranch, and two sisters, Lynne (Harold) Hoffman of Thornton, and Donette (Joe) Homra of Arvada. Per his wishes, there will be no public memorial. In lieu of flowers, David requested friends send donations to Canine Companions for Independence, P.O. Box 446, Santa Rosa, Calif., 95402
