Darrel was born to Gottfried and Irene on September 7, 1940 in Hardin, Montana. He was a respected Denver police officer from 1969-2001. In his spare time he loved coaching his boys’ soccer teams, fishing, camping and golfing. He also loved spending his holidays in Estes Park surrounded by family.

Darrel is survived by his three children, Ryan, Mike and Chad, his brother Gary and his six grandchildren.
As another police academy classmate and friend, I offer my sincere condolences to Darrel's family. He was exactly what a good officer should be..fair, honest, and dedicated. A true Gentleman, he will be missed.

May his memory be eternal.
Darrel was a wonderful brother-in-law. He had a heart of gold. He was gentle, kind, steady, and fun. We are heartbroken that Darrel and Carol are gone. Our family won't be the same without these two. We will hold good memories and love in our hearts forever. Our deepest sympathy to his family and all who knew and loved him.
Darrell was one of my Academy classmates. He came across a professional and always looked that way. Unfortunately, we never got to work together. He was a nice guy who always had a smile. Enjoy your eternal reward Darrell.
I am very sorry to hear of Darrel's passing and wish to convey my deepest sympathies to the Wagner family. I'm sure he is happy to be reunited with his wife. What I remember the most is how Aunt Carol and Uncle Darrel always made time to take me around the town to take photos when I came back to Denver for visits. Darrel took me to DIA before it opened since he was working at the airport at that time and I'm grateful to have some photos from the runways and around the airport, before things moved from Stapleton. I will miss them very much
I'll always remember the great times we shared at old “Mile High” cheering for the Broncos. Carol was such fun, Darrell the perfect gentleman, once again together forever. My sincere condolences to the Wagner family.
Such a courteous, respectful and professional cop and decent human being. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends.
Worked with and around Darrell for many years. Always a hard worker and a gem of a guy. Never saw him lose his patience or smile. A true servant's heart. Condolences to his family.

Our sincerest condolences to all of the Wagner family! I was introduced to Darrel when I was promoted to Detective in 1992 and assigned to the District 2 Burglary Unit. I was so fortunate to have Darrel as a mentor, coworker, and especially as a friend all of these years. It has been a true blessing having Darrel, Carol, and their family touch our lives! I worked with Darrel as a rookie at District 4. He had a great attitude, was obviously a good man, and was destined to be a great cop. No one could meet Darrel and not like him.
I have known Darrel since High School. Always a great guy. Always showed class in everything he did and the way he treated people. We will miss him greatly.
