Charles "Tjeerd" Dykstra

Charles Dykstra, 97, of Broomfield, CO, passed away on October 20, 2019 in Federal Heights, CO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Hope Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, (formerly 3rd Christian Reformed), 2400 S Ash St, Denver, CO 80222 with Pastor Dominic Palacios officiating. Private graveside services will be held at Fort Logan. Arrangements are by Stork Family Mortuary.

Charles was born in Chicago, IL to Klaas and Jantje Dykstra on October 6, 1922, the youngest of six children and first member of his family to be born in the United States. He went to school in Marysville, WA. He married Violet Armstrong on May 25, 1949 in Everett, WA. He worked as a Dental Technician for several successful dental practices as well as dental labs in the Denver area. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps, 458th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, in the European theatre and was awarded 3 Bronze Battle Stars, the Air Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was involved in the American Legion - Post 11-11, Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 4171 and 8th Air Force Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet, and son, Steven.

Charles is survived by his sons Michael (Nancy Danford) and Paul (Laura Nixon), daughters, Ginnie (John Brandsma) and Laurie (Jay Lang), grandchildren Michelle Dykstra-Caskey, Scott Dykstra, Erin Ball, Tony Dykstra, Tammy Rohlman, Kevin Dykstra, Melissa Kopycinski, John Nixon, Jason Brandsma, Andrew Brandsma and Alexandria Nixon, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tony Dykstra, Mike Caskey, Scott Dykstra, Kevin Dykstra, Jason Brandsma and Andrew Brandsma.

Memorials may be given to American Legion - Post 11-11 or to Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 4171.
