Carrie Frances Dozbaba
December 7, 1965 - June 16, 2017

Carrie Frances (Chandler) Dozbaba, age 51, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2017, from cancer.

She was born on December 7, 1965 and grew up in Golden, CO. She graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1984. She earned a degree from CSU in Nutrition, a Music degree from CU, and a Nursing degree from Arapahoe Community College. Carrie's degree in Nursing led her to many different specialties. She ended up in Dialysis Nursing where she managed a dialysis clinic for Fresenius.

Never married until her mid 40's, she met Greg (also never married and in his mid 40's) and they went to Las Vegas and got married in The Little White Chapel where Elvis sang at their wedding.

Carrie and Greg enjoyed traveling, returning to Las Vegas every year for their anniversary. They took several cruises and other trips - usually to some place that had a casino. Greg taught Carrie how to play Texas Hold Em Poker, which she loved to play and became good at.

Carrie was kind of a science fiction nerd and loved Star Wars, Star Trek, and anything to do with astronomy. She also had a fascination with science and nature.

She loved music, played the piano and earned a masters degree in musical composition. And she loved to attend live musical performances, particularly in the summer. She loved to go to the Colorado Symphony and attend shows at the Lakewood Cultural Center. She taught Greg how to enjoy the symphony, while Greg tried to make her appreciate loud punk rock shows on East Colfax (which she never really did).

She was also a huge animal lover. She spoiled her cat Luna and dog Betty. She could watch Animal Planet and National Geographic Channels for hours. One favorite tradition on Saturday mornings was to watch "Too Cute" and "Cesar Millan" with Betty the Dog. Betty loves to bark at other dogs on TV and this would leave the both of them entertained for hours.

Carrie's struggle with cancer was inspirational and can show us all what perseverance is about. She had numerous setbacks and hospital stays when the doctors weren't quite sure whether she was going to pull through, but she kept trudging along. Carrie participated in the "Heroes for Hope" 5K cancer survivors fundraiser just 12 days before her death. It is a cancer survivors celebration she and Greg had supported for many years, even before cancer had become so personal. Along with her oxygen tank, Carrie walked a complete mile with support from family and friends. Afterwards, in one of the booths, there was a decorated silk tapestry where cancer survivors could write a personal message of hope or support. Carrie simply wrote, "Cancer Sucks!!! Don't let it win."

Carrie is survived by her husband Greg, brother Dave Chandler, sister Cathy Maglione, dog Betty, cat Luna, and a large extended group of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Earl Chandler, MD; mother Doris Chandler; brother-in-law Richard Maglione; and nephew Adam Chandler.
