CANDACE (MCMILLAN) VARGAS  (59) – Littleton, CO

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all, born to Roy and Mozelle McMillan on July 8, 1952 in Trinidad, Colorado and entered into eternal life on September 13, 2011.  Candy spent most of her childhood in Colorado and Texas before moving to Cimarron, New Mexico in 1966, where she met the love of her life and husband of 36 years, Michael A. Vargas.  Candy earned a degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Colorado in 1974 and on March 22, 1975 she and Michael were married.  The happy couple enjoyed a short time together in Pueblo and took a huge leap of faith when the two “country kids” decided to move to the “big city” of Denver.

Candy began working at the Colorado Department of Education in November of 1976, where she spent the next 32 years providing support to Colorado school districts in the area of Special Education.  Candy and Mike’s first child, Sonia, was born in 1978, followed by their son, Shane, in 1981.  The two of them took great pride in their children and were very active in their lives.  They worked hard to provide Sonia and Shane with every opportunity imaginable and spent every moment they had attending PTA meetings, coaching sports teams, sponsoring field trips, being on the board of the Columbine High School Band Boosters, and opening their home to anyone that needed a place to live or a safe place to hang out.

On August 7, 2009, Chase Michael Vargas was born, and Candy became a first time grandparent.  She would light up at the mere mention of his name, and each time she saw him it was evident in the ear to ear grin and the sparkle of her gorgeous blue eyes that she considered him to be the greatest blessing of her life.

Candy will be remembered for her larger than life personality, her indescribable generosity, her hilarious jokes, her ridiculously large collection of rabbits, her ability to organize the world’s best party for any occasion, the inspirational way in which she lived her life and, most of all, for her oversized heart and the love that she so openly gave to each and every person she ever met.

Please join the family in a memorial service and celebration of Candy’s life on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 11am. Guests are encouraged to wear “Team Candy” shirts to the service.
