Betty Jo Sealman

betty sealman

This is in loving memory of Betty Jo Sealman (1925-2016), mother, grandmother, micropaleontologist and teacher. She was an exceptional person, taking college classes at age 15, a trailblazer as the only woman in her geology class, and an outstanding student who graduated at the top of her class. She earned her pilot's license at 16 and moved from the small town of Ada, OK, to the Big Apple, where she shortly became a department manager at Macy's. After moving to Colorado and having her children, she worked from home for Gulf Oil. Her children grew up with a microscope and her attitude of analysis as fixtures in the kitchen. She always said her greatest joy was having children, and that love carried her into a teaching career. She is survived by her children Dan and Melody Sealman, grandchildren Matthew Miller and Layton Sealman and sisters Melody and Kay. She was preceded in death by her son Wes Sealman, her mother Louise and father Lee Higginbotham and siblings Ida Lee, Clifton, Benny, Nadine, Pauline, Bob and Dorothy. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held April 2, 2016, 5 to 9 pm at Kanon Collective, 766 Santa Fe Drive, Denver. She is in our hearts, today, tomorrow and always, and we're certain she's back on the path to lively adventures elsewhere.
