Betty J. Smith
9/20/1949 – 9/23/2020
Betty was the fourth of five children, with three sisters and one brothers, all of whom she shared a lifetime of laughter and memorable escapades. In 1974, Betty became one of the first women hired as a patrol officer by the Denver Police Department, and proudly carried her badge for 34 years. In 1996, Betty’s heart grew three times its size with love when her granddaughter was born, who continued to remain the light and joy of her life. Betty was a loving, trusted, and faithful wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Betty, you have so many who love and miss you! Our love for you will remain in our hearts forever.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! You were always kind! Rest in peace, Betty!
Betty was a beautiful person with so much respect for others, she was a great friend and class mate. She will forever be missed but never forgotten. Rest In Peace my dear friend. I'm so very sorry for your loss Charlie.
Betty was a dear friend and a very special lady. I will miss her dearly. Charlie you are in my thoughts and prayers. My dear Rose if you need anything don't hesitate to call. Betty will always and forever be in my thoughts and prayers
Betty was forever beautiful inside and out and always had a kind word for everyone that I knew she had come in contact with.
Sorry for your most tragic loss Charlie, the both of you are always kind and loving. God be with you and your family.
Betty was such a genuinely good person. She always had a smile and a good word to offer. I would run into her frequently in the Property Bureau, both of us putting in evidence, and she and I would always find something to laugh about! Charlie, you were so blessed to have her in your life and I know she felt the same way about having you in hers. You two were a great couple. Thank you, Betty for sharing a laugh, being a great lady, and a fabulous example for female cops! You made a difference! God Bless you!
Betty, we had so many laughs in high school, but did not stay in touch. One day Gary came home from work and told me you were working for Denver. I loved when we would run into you because we just kind of picked up where we left off. You have always been a very special person and now you can share your wonderful laugh with all the other angels. Rest In Peace sweet lady! ❤️ Jan and Gary Regan
Charlie & family so sorry for the loss of such a beautiful Lady inside & out 💕

Charlie, What can I say? I don't think condolences is enough for the loss of such a wonderful person. You know of all tough times I shared with Rose and Betty and what an amazing pair they were, and what a crack up they both were when they got together. Betty was always smiling and the posts you have already received I can only echo because Betty did light up the room when she came in. I enjoyed my time with you three and you all made a big difference in my work life, for the better. Thank you for sharing your lovely wife me with when we were all at work. Her passing is a loss to the human race.
Charlie, my deepest condolences to you and your family. Betty was a wonder to work around and with. Her infectious smile and positive attitude will always be remembered. When Betty entered a room, you could feel the warm and joy of her personality. Heaven is a better place with Betty there. God bless you Charlie.

Charlie, so very sorry to hear about Betty's death. I hope she went with no pain. I remember the good OLD days in HQ Property Crimes when she, Rose, and the other hard workers, made us Detectives look good. She was always laughing and enjoying life, even smoke breaks before they were verbotten. She was a special lady and was always helpful to me whenever I needed access to the information at her disposal. God Bless you Friend, and may he console you during this time of loss, from someone who has been there. The Sun will shine again!

Charlie, and family,
We are so sorry for the loss of Betty. I got to know her well during the time I worked in the Civil Liability Unit, but also knew her from Patrol. She always had a smile. I learned a lot from Betty when I worked with her. She was really good at her job, and had a lot of patience with me teaching me the work.
She was a friend, a work mate and a teacher. She loved her family, you could tell because she smiled as she talked about them, and when there were concerns for her family she was there to help.
Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers
Amy Alonzo

Charlie and Rose,
I am so very sorry for Betty's passing and celebrate what she meant over the years to you and all of us who were fortunate enough to have known her. My best memories reside the times we were all assigned to District three as young officers having fun working the street. Betty was always fun, hard working and more mature than most of the rest of us. She was a leader and didn't know it. In addition she was one of the best and considerate people all of us have known. I have thought of you three often and am sorry that we lost touch over the later years. I will always hold you three in my heart and fond memories and hope your love for and own memories of Betty will live in your hearts forever.
Charlie, we are so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. she was a special person who I always remember smiling and laughing. You are in our thoughts and prayers. RIP sweet Betty

There are not a lot of people you meet in life that acknowledge you every time they see you with a "hello" and a smile, but Betty was one of those rare people. It is also rare to see two people complete each other like Betty and Charlie did and it was obvious that what they had together was special. God bless you Betty and may you rest in peace.
Meet Betty with my friend Bob Gallo when they were on duty together . What a wonderful person. Great sense of humor. Lover her laugh !!!!!!!!!!!!! Miss a good officer who did a good Job !!!!! Steve Bennett Honorary Captain DPD
As each of us grieve privately, I am proud and honored to be Betty's niece. My aunt Betty was a woman of so many wonderful traits, dignity, principle, kind, loving and fun! Her infectious laugh and smile would fill the room and just warm your heart and before you knew it you would be laughing right along with her. Growing up my cousin Christie and myself would spend weekends with our aunt Betty and Rosie. We would have so much fun, going cruising around Denver, going home to watch Elvis movies and have dance parties. There was so much love my two aunts provided. This was genuine, good old fashion fun & love, bringing our generations closer together. Not only was my aunt Betty, my aunt, she was a freind. She was there for me through countless hardships in my life. Betty's fun spirit brought so much fun to family holidays. Betty you are missed more than words can express. You are missed everyday and will never be forgotten. I know we all have an extra angel looking out for us. We will see you on the other side. I love you
Betty, I will remember you well for a very long time. Your smile, your laughter, your friendship, and your love for all. I remember your stories of the streets and family, especially those about Brittney and Charlie. I am so very pleased that you and Charlie had the wonderful fortune to spend a great part of your lives together.
You are a wondrous being, I am blessed for having known you.
