Betty Heller

In loving memory of Betty Heller, wife of Helmut "Joe" Heller, mother of Robert Heller, Monica (John) Heller-Hackett, Sonja (Dan) McNamee and Jennifer Heller; grandmother of Madison, Kayla, Erica, Grant, Matthew and Jake.

Betty was born in Nurnberg, Germany on November 4, 1939. Her parents, Michael and Maria Sturm, raised their six children Josef, Franz, Marianne, Betty, Gertraud, and Karl in Germany. Betty met her husband of 53 years in Germany. They came to the United States in 1961, and settled into the Englewood community.  Betty loved to cook, garden, make flower arrangements, and was always on the look out for a good bargain! She loved raising her four kids and especially loved to go for strolls with her grandchildren to find ducks or ants to feed. She was always willing to help, whether it be friends, strangers or stray animals that needed a loving home.  Her car was always full of kids and the home never had fewer than 2 pets! She was a proud blood donor and donated over two gallons.  Betty also spent many years volunteering for the Denver Kickers making homemade vats of sauer kraut (smelling up the whole neighborhood) and buckets of potato salad. She fought a long battle with Alzheimer's, and even during this time loved to go to family events and spend time at the Johnson Center.  She will be deeply missed.

Services for Betty will be on Monday, January 25th at 11:00 AM.  We will honor her life at the Inn at Hudson Gardens, 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO 80120. There will be a reception following the services.

If you would like to make a donation in honor of Betty, please go to http://www.Myinnovage.org. The Johnson Center provided a lot of support and care for Betty.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Betty (and Joe)  were such a big part of our daughter Christie's childhood I think they took her more places than we did. Where did the time go? How did we get so caught up with life that one slipped away before we could tell her how much she meant to us.  We always think there will be a tomorrow, yet that is never promised.

We are so saddened by her passing.  Betty did so much for so many, she was such a loving, caring person.  Joe, let us know if we can do anything for you.  Our deepest sympathy to the family.

  2. I haven't seen Betty for a number of years. The last time I remember we were in the mountains cheering for Jen who was doing a triathlon. I always thought it was so cool that Betty never stopped cheering for Jen. I met her in high school and I feel like Betty was always there cheering, and being feisty:) If it wasn't for sports then it would be in other little ways. I recall a few occasions being on the receiving end of some beautiful flowers. I can't speak for others, but I'm sure they feel the same, Betty really made me feel like someone cared and was always rooting for me. That's an amazing quality. I know we have all lost a special soul. Big hugs, love and peace to her family.

  3. My deepest sympathies to all of Betty's family.  I will always remember her as Oma.  I loved seeing her on the Peabody playground; the love in her eyes as she watched Maddie and Erica play after school.  She always had a kind word, a warm smile and a listening ear for any child on that playground.  My heartfelt love and sorrow for your loss.

  4. Dear Joe and family,

Betty played a big part in our lives back in the soccer days and we just loved her.  She and I often got together when Jennifer was born as our Maria was about the same age.  I have such wonderful memories of a beautiful woman and we feel blessed and honored to have had her in our lives.

Our hearts and prayers are with you all.

    Jeanne

  5. Betty played a big part in how I grew up due to Sonja and I being such close friends growing up. I will always remember her smile and helping others. I spent many hours of my life growing up in her household enjoying the experiences of Germany. I love her and her family very much. She will be sorely missed by so many people.

The news of her passing makes me deeply sad, however I know she is in a much better place and now we all have one more angel looking over us until we all meet again. Thank you Betty for sharing your life with me and so many more others. Betty you will remain in my heart and soul the rest of my life. I will be praying for her entire family during this time of sadness and loss…

  6. I can still hear her laugh and see that wonderful smile. What a wonderful, sweet soul Betty was. I have many wonderful childhood memories at the Heller house, simple, happy memories full of love. Sending you all peace and love during this difficult time.
