Anthony Joseph Stone

Anthony Joseph Stone passed on November 8th, 2018 at the age of 96. He was a resident of Brookdale Denver Assisted Living. He was the son of Clyde and Della Stone of Potenza, Italy and Denver, Colorado. As a native of Denver he attended West High School. He received his bachelor degree in education from Colorado State Teachers College, Greeley, Colorado. He spent 30 years in the Denver Public Schools and obtained a Master Degree in Education from the University of Denver. He served as an assistant principal at Skinner Junior High School, Lincoln High School, and John F. Kennedy Junior/Senior High School. He was the Athletic Director for John F. Kennedy Athletic Department. He was named to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Colorado Italian Hall of Fame. He served with the 401st Bomb Group (H) during the Second World War
In addition to his career as an educator, he was a master craftsman. He and his wife built several custom homes. He did custom woodworking and was an accomplished landscaper. In his youth he was considered a child virtuoso on the accordion and during his service in WW II he started, conducted, and arranged for a 23 piece USO band that entertained throughout England.
He was a dedicated husband and family man. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores (Pietrafeso) his wife of 66 years, and his sister Angelina. He is survived by his children Sharon, Anthony II, Jimmie and daughter-in-law Monica, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at Risen Christ Catholic Parish, 3060 S. Monaco Parkway, Denver, Colorado, 80222.
