Wm. Andy Hays, 88, of Englewood, died peacefully Jan. 6, 2010, at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center in Littleton.

Andy was born in Hannibal, MO, to Perry T. Hays and Maude (Sullivan) Hays and moved to St. Joseph, MO at an early age. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1938. A member of the 'greatest generation,' Andy was a veteran of World War II having served in the Signal Corps in both the European and Pacific Theaters.

In 1946, he married the love of his life, LaVonne "Bonnie" Temple Hays. In 1957, they moved to Englewood. He was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church serving as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister and usher for years in addition to the parish council, school board and other assorted activities until the past four or five years. He was also active in the Englewood Lions Club for years, assisting and leading numerous community projects.

Andy retired from Natkin & Co. in June 1986 after 29 years of service as the purchasing manager.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister, Jessie Hays Ragland, of Springfield, IL. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Michael (Mary) Hays, of Littleton, and Rick (Jane) Hays, of Helena, MT, four grandsons, one granddaughter, one great grandson and one great granddaughter, one sister, Mary C. Hays, of St. Joseph, MO, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Andy in recent years and the staff at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center for their compassionate care.

A visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 10 from 2-4 p.m. at Bullock Mortuary, Englewood, CO. A recitation of the Rosary will be Monday, Jan. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, Englewood, CO, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Louis Catholic School, 3301 Sherman St., Englewood, CO, 80113, or a charity of your choice.
