Amy Jean Wentworth

Our beloved Amy Jean Wentworth was born May 9th, 1970 in Denver, CO.  As a baby, her family first lived in a small apartment on south Holly street where her father did the building maintenance in exchange for discounted rent.  The family moved a couple more times within the metro area before settling on south Lafayette street in Englewood.  Amy attended school at Charles Hay Elementary and Flood Middle School where she enjoyed participating in Brownies, symphonic and marching band, and a valiant effort at soccer.  Amy attended Englewood High School before graduating from Englewood's Finest Alternative High School, class of 1988.

During High School, Amy developed quite the passion for the music industry.  She became a member of the school newspaper, reporting on the local music scene, bands, concerts and lifestyle.  This transitioned into an opportunity with a local public television show called "Graffiti T.V.," where her team conducted T.V. interviews with local bands and touring bands coming through Denver.

After graduating high school, Amy attended beauty school in Englewood.  She became a hair sylist which she did intermittently for several years.  She enjoyed getting to know her clients and loved to share her humor with them.  Amy continued to focus on the Denver music scene and became an employee of Rhino Music Productions.  She thrived at Rhino where she could share her passion for music and commitment with the company's people, from the administration staff to the worker bees whom she called her "Rhinos."  Amy enjoyed that lifestyle and had many musical adventures with her friends.

Amy settled down a bit after that chapter in her life and found her true calling as a preschool teacher.  She taught at the Early Learning Center at St. John's Lutheran Church where she touched many young lives and filled their hearts with love and joy.  She fostered many relationships with the people and kids of St. Johns.  Her faith in God developed and strengthened over the years and carried her through some tough times.  

Throughout her life, Amy enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time at the cabin in Grand Lake, the muppets, reading, studying biblical history, and collecting artifacts.  She enjoyed travelling in the family camper to visit relatives, Wentworth garage jam-sessions, Paul Bunyon Land, watching over her brother, listening to records with her dad, cooking, eating crab legs with her step daughter and nephews, helping people overcome addiction, opening her heart and home to troubled youth and families, and most of all, influencing the hearts and minds of children while spreading the word of the Lord to all. 

Amy was very smart, very tough, and had a great sense of humor with an endless smile.  She made friends everywhere she went.  She was always trying to do some kind of stunt which often ended in an epic wipe-out.  She was exuberant, a kid at heart, and a true Taurus.

Amy persevered through much adversity and pain in her life.  At 47, she died much too young, but she lived a lifetime.  Some of her last words before her death were, "You can't reach the top of the mountain without going through the valley."  Amy made it to the top of the mountain where she sits in Heaven with her beloved mother Evelyn, looking down on us with her amazing smile.  She will be missed....

Amy is preceded in death by her mother Evelyn, (2017).  Amy is survived by her father Alan, brother Bret (Courtney), nephews Asa, 13, and Shayden, 9, and step daughter Korina, 15. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 7th, 2018 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church.  (700 S. Franklin St., Denver, CO  80209)
