Allen Prince Murray

Allen Prince Murray, son of Prof. Elwood Murray (DU) and Emma Murray, brother of Rosalind Meyer, Maurice "Buzz" Murray and Arthur Murray, has died at age 87.  He grew up in University Park, where he began a lifelong career of making friends.  He was Head Boy at Grant Jr. High School and at South High School, where he lettered in football, wrestling, and track, graduating in 1947.  He attended the University of Denver on an athletic scholarship and earned a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 1951.  After military service in Korea, he married Dorothy Debont  (South High '51.)  He worked in food service management in several states before returning to his beloved Colorado in 1969, where he managed facilities including DU's Student Union, Children's Hospital, and the College Inn in Boulder, where he much enjoyed feeding the national champion Buffs.

After retirement, Al travelled extensively with various family members, including trips around North, South, and Central America, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the South Pacific. In 1992 he joined the board of Accelerated Schools and later served as chairman.  He was active in the First Universalist Church of Denver, and was always ready for coffee and conversation anywhere, on any topic. His wonderful warmth and sense of humor will be sorely missed by his wife, Dorothy Murray, children Glenn (Michelle) Murray and Debonney (Bruce) Basham, four grandchildren (Blake, Rebecca, Peter, Odessa,) and many friends and relatives. Memorial service will be at the First Universalist Church of Denver at 1:00 PM on April 16, 2016.
