Alice Lenore Durfee

Alice Durfee was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 15, 1938.  Raised in Chicago and later in the suburb of Des Plaines, Illinois, Alice went to school at Wheaton College, in Illinois, where she met her husband, Marion Charles Durfee. Alice left before graduating from Wheaton to marry Chuck. They started their marriage in Fairbanks, Alaska, while Chuck attended graduate school.

Moving would be a theme in Alice’s married life. After Fairbanks, she and Chuck moved to Laramie, Wyoming, and then to Anchorage, Alaska, where they had their twin daughters, Karen and Deanne. Now with twin baby daughters, Alice and Chuck continued their moving, this time to Canada, where they lived in Regina, Saskatchewan, and eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta. Their third child, David, was born in Calgary. Alice also completed her education, attending the University of Calgary.

Alice and her family moved again in 1972 to Midland, Texas. Although they had a brief stint in Broomfield, Colorado in the mid-70s, Midland would be home for many years. Alice took on work as a researcher for NORC, associated with the University of Chicago. She was able to continue this work while she and Chuck relocated - this time back to Chicago, Illinois, and then to Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1997-98, Alice and Chuck realized that all of their grandchildren were in Denver, Colorado, and they made the decision to move to Denver to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Alice enjoyed being close to her grandchildren, and watching them grow into fine young men.

Alice is survived by her husband, Marion Charles Durfee, as well as her children, Karen Durfee, Deanne Durfee and husband Barry Seidenstat, and David Durfee. She is also survived by her four grandsons, Ben Wozniak, Charlie Wozniak, Sam Seidenstat, and Andrew Seidenstat.Deanne Durfee

Guestbook

  1. Alice, you were such a sweet lady. I enjoyed meeting you and working with Chuck.  The 50th wedding anniversary party was a grand event and I was honored to be invited to it.  I will miss you and your nice smile and sweet demeanor.  Don't worry, Chuck will be okay; there are many who will look after him.  May you rest in peace and the Lord now has a prized gem for company.  Good bye, Alice.  We will meet again in Heaven.

  2. Alice is fondly remembered by her NORC colleagues.  Our condolences to her lovely family whom she adored.
