Alan L. Bernhardt
December 23, 1949 – September 26, 2020
Alan Bernhardt passed away peacefully on September 26, 2020. Al was 70 years old. As his valiant battle with kidney disease took its toll, he continued to press on and strive for the best life he could achieve, despite his ailment. Al was born in Denver, Colorado on December 23, 1949, the oldest son of Robert and Angelina Bernhardt. Raised in Edgewater, Al attended Jefferson High School. He took on a leadership role for his family after the death of his father, and worked hard to guide his brothers and sister and help his mother.
He met his future wife, Elizabeth Prouse, and they were married on July 27, 1967. They were married for 53 years. Al and Liz had two sons, Robert and Randall. They raised their boys in Applewood, and their home was always a warm, welcome place for friends and family to stop by and visit. Al was a trained, journeyman cabinet maker, and turned his career into a very successful commercial construction business. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, and throughout his life, his love of building and restoring old cars and hot rods never waned. He never hesitated to lend a hand whenever and wherever needed. If you required help with any project, Al was there to assist. He was an avid fan of the Broncos, and his passion for them was well known throughout his neighborhood, especially when the Broncos were losing. Al was a proud freemason, and belonged to Lakewood Lodge #170 and the El Jebel Shrine Temple. He was proud to parade for the Shrine with the Antique Auto Patrol. His blood ran purple, and Al was a true ambassador of Mirth and Merriment.
Al was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Angelina, and his sister, Susan. He is survived by his brothers, Gale (Dina) and Steven (Isabelle), as well as his wife and best friend, Liz, and their two sons, Robert and Randall (Jessica). Al is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie (Jarren), and Jack. The funeral for Alan will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Church, 4490 Newland St., Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Al and Liz would ask for donations to be made to the:
