Alan James Wentworth

Alan J. Wentworth was born on November 12th, 1936 in Thompson Iowa.  He was the beloved son of James and Martha Wentworth. Al was brother to Steven, Jim, Doug, Kerry, Gloria, Shirley, Marilyn, Myrna, and Norma.  Being one of ten children, the Wentworth Family Farm provided Al with many opportunities to work, play, and work some more. Growing up on the farm, Al enjoyed singing and yodeling with his siblings while milking cows, fishing, playing baseball with his brothers, and supporting the family.  

After graduating highschool, Alan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  Alan returned home early towards the end of his service to make sure the corn crop came in properly on the family farm.  Alan attended Iowa State briefly before moving to California where he worked as a banker and music performer/promoter.  

Alan loved the outdoors, and decided to move to Colorado in the 1960’s, where he met his beloved wife Evelyn, also from Iowa.  They were married and had two children, Amy and Bret. The family had many adventures together and enjoyed taking trips to visit family in Iowa and Minnesota, camping, spending time at the Grand Lake cabin, fishing, hunting, skiing, ranching in Yampa, and attending Bronco Games.

Alan retired from Colorado Kenworth where he worked for many years in the finance department.  He was fondly known as “Big Al, the Truckers Pal”. Alan spent a significant part of his life, especially upon retiring, in Yampa Co.  He worked for The Yampa Valley Ranch for many years. These years spent in the high country were truly amazing for Al. 

Alan was one of a kind.  If you knew him, then you knew love, laughter, family, country and western music,  tractors and trucks, whisky, sunrises, mepps lures, rivers, deer, elk, american history, twine, tie wire and duct tape.  If you only met him once, I’m sure he put a smile on your face….

Alan is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn (2017) and daughter Amy (2018).  Alan is survived by his son Bret (wife Courtney), and his two grandsons Asa and Shady.
