December 5, 1921 ~ November 25, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Harold “Bill” Eichelberger, on November 25th, 2025, at the age of 103. Bill was in Clare Bridge and Hospice at Brookdale Parkplace, and the caring staff gave him the nickname “Pa Pa”. He won over their hearts with his gentleness and easy smile.

It is difficult to summarize such a long and well-lived life; perhaps the best way is in Bill’s own words, in the preface to his memoir “My Three Lives”:

“I sometimes say that I have had three lives. I have been happily married three times. I have four children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. I lived in Honolulu when I was growing up, but I have always considered Denver to be my home and have lived in Denver since 1946. I have travelled a lot. I have visited 15 countries and 43 states. I learned to fly at the age of 73 and logged 508 hours as pilot in command, landing in 14 states and at 23 airports in Colorado and 36 airports in other states. I was active in the Denver Sailing Association, sailing a Snipe. I have been the skipper on bareboat charters of sailboats in the Virgin Islands and Florida. I have a degree in electrical engineering and worked on radio and audio equipment and computer design. The last 24 years of my working career were spent as Director of the Computing Center at the University of Denver and doing a lot of programming. After I retired in 1988, I served on boards of several nonprofit organizations.

I have lived a rich, good, and happy life.”

His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with curiosity, resilience, and kindness. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

In addition to his parents, Leslie and Elma Eichelberger, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Eichelberger; his first wife, Margaret Crane Eichelberger; his second wife, Betty Martin Eichelberger; and his third wife, Pera Beth Swenson Eichelberger; his oldest daughter Dianne Eichelberger Krus; and his son David William Eichelberger.

He is survived by his daughters Susan Crane (Gary Prado) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Sally Kuhn (Jerry) of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Kelli Trujillo of Laramie, Wyoming, Holly McClelland of Denver, Colorado, and Elizabeth Herrmann of Englewood, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Veronica Herrmann of Englewood, Colorado; and step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren by marriage to Betty and Pera Beth.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026. We will come together and share stories, raise a glass to Bill, and remember the remarkable man he was. May his memory be a blessing.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Bill’s legacy of curiosity and learning by seeking out new knowledge, noticing the beauty of the mountains and sharing kindness with others. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to his extraordinary life.

  1. Great respect for an extraordinary person, computer pioneer, world traveler and adventurer. One might expect to be nervous getting into an airplane with a 73 year old pilot but when you see how meticulous he was with his pre-flight inspection you know you’re in good hands. Bill had many accomplishments in his long life (10 days shy of 104 years) but for me the best thing he did was being parent to my wonderful, beautiful wife, Dianne. RIP Bill! I hope you’re flying off into Heaven and your passenger list includes some amazing people. Buckle up and happy landings!
