Shirley Bergren

Shirley was born to TG Foster and Elsie Berner on January 01, 1929 at Community Hospital in Long Beach, California being the first child born in the new year. She spent the first two years in California and Oregon with her parents and extended family. As a young child she was christened in The First Methodist Episcopal Church and later a member of the Baptist Church In Windsor, Colorado. She Attended the Elementary Platoon School where she spent many years as a girl scout in Troop #1.Then onto Windsor Junior and Senior High School where she loved music programs, PE classes and studied piano. Her first recital was on the radio at KFKA in Greeley at the age of 15. She along with classmates would sing and play cards at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. After graduation in May of 1946, she enrolled at Colorado A & M College in Fort Collins, Colorado majoring in Physical Education. She joined the Kappa Delta Sorority where along with her studies learned to drive. She was a member of the Women’s Athletic Association and selected as Honorary Cadet Capitan by the ROTC. She also met and married John Bergren on March 30th, 1948 while both were attending school. After leaving school she had many jobs including The Denver Dry Goods company, Running the Riverside Hotel in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado with her husband, selling stauffer machines, played the organ for the National Western Stock Show, played in a all girl combo called the Chicklets, and the Columbine Airs trio group. In retirement John and Shirley traveled extensively in the 1970’s, 80’s, and 90’s to see family and the world. Shirley moved into Homestead Assisted Living on November 5, 2004 where she continued to play the piano for the residences and church services. Shirley’s husband John Bergren is living at Mountain Vista Assisted Living, 3 sons David, Ronald, and Norman, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
