In loving memory of Russell Frederick Rider, who passed away peacefully of natural causes on August
26, 2025, while in hospice care at HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.
Russ was 93 years old.
Born in Denver, Colorado, Russ most recently resided in Englewood. He was an avid follower of the news
and enjoyed a lifetime of outdoor activities including camping, rifle and bow hunting, and archery. He
loved working with his hands and took pride in building many things throughout his life, including a
camper, skateboards and hula hoops for his children, and even the family home in Indian Hills, Colorado.
Russ was the son of Hugo Rider and Freeda Banes and attended school in Sheridan, Colorado. He
proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska, France, and Germany, where he assisted
with the reconstruction efforts following World War II.
He and his beloved wife, JoAnn, shared 73 years of marriage. Together they built their home in Indian
Hills and raised three beautiful children with love and devotion.
Russ is survived by his wife, Lavina JoAnn (Akers) Rider of Englewood, CO, their three children Debra
Ann Troxler (Steve); Englewood, CO, Timothy Russell Rider (Nancy); Green River, WY, and Stacie
Ingram (Rod); Longmont, CO. Grandfather to Heather Roberts, Austin Rider, Kayla Jo Majhanovich, and
Cody “Bubba” Rider. Great grandfather to Reitta and Violet Roberts, Sterling and Lennox Rider, and
Adalyn Jo and Carson Majhanovich.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hugo Rider and Freeda Banes, sisters Vivian Losaw and Lila
Albertson, and his infant brother.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 @ 11:30am at Fort Logan National
Cemetery, in Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send your warmest wishes to the family as they navigate this
time of loss.
