Dr. Alfred Erich Bussian died on July 11 , 2015 in Englewood, Colorado.  He is survived by his wife, Irena of Golden; a son from a previous marriage, Peter G of New York City; a sister, Helen Bruns of Trabucco, California; and four grandchildren: Peter H, Isabela, Maximilian and Leonardo.  Another son, Erich of Durango, preceded him in death.

Alfred was born on September 9, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The son of German immigrants, Alfred graduated from Ripon College and then spent 2 years in the army as a second lieutenant. While stationed in Las Cruces, NM, he met his first wife, Auguste and they settled in Boulder in 1958 when Alfred entered the PhD Physics program at the University of Colorado under the guidance of Professor Frank Oppenheimer.

Alfred and his family moved to Jamestown in 1959 and it was here that he raised his sons. Alfred's specialty was particle physics and he did high level research at Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany in the 1960s and at the University of Michigan high energy lab on Mt. Evans in the 1970s, where he worked on high altitude cosmic ray experiments searching for free quarks.

In 1980, Alfred moved to Houston, Texas, where was employed by Texaco to develop new methods of oil extraction.   Alfred continued to do physics until his death and was still working on a paper on the origin of the universe.

A service will be held at Bullock Mortuary in Englewood on Monday, July 27 at 10 am. All of his friends are invited to attend. His ashes will be spread on the top of Mt. Evans immediately following the service.
