Betsy Grace Scheid

Betsy Grace Scheid, 84, of Littleton, Colorado, stepped into the arms of her loving Heavenly Father on August 3, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on January 24, 1942, in Houston, Texas, Betsy lived a life centered on family, faith, and love. She will be remembered for her creativity, adventurous spirit, and love for animals, but most of all, for her gift of exhortation, always lifting others up and helping them see the best in themselves.

Betsy touched the lives of countless children and families throughout her teaching career. She considered teaching Special Education not only her profession, but her calling, and she had a gift for finding ways to help students with unique learning needs succeed, offering the patience, encouragement, and support they needed to grow and thrive.

Betsy’s true passion was gardening, in which she found a spiritual connection to her Creator; she loved watching plants flourish and bloom, especially her New Dawn rose. She was ever engaged in artistic endeavors; there was nothing she could not envision and create, but nothing delighted her more than time spent with family and friends. Her life was a stellar example of faith, and she inspired those around her to look to the Lord. “Profound Reliance” became a guiding theme in Betsy’s life, beautifully reflecting her deep trust in Jesus and the sweet relationship she shared with her Savior.

Among those who will deeply feel her absence are her two sons and their families, Damon and Valerie Johnston of Lakewood, Colorado, and Derek and Christy Johnston of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Of the many blessings of Betsy’s life, nothing brought her heart more joy than her grandchildren. They were an immeasurable source of delight, pride, and love, and her beautiful legacy lives on through Sydney, Cami, and Braden Johnston; Sloane (Austin) Elliott, and Campbell and Wilson Johnston. Her sisters will forever hold her close in their hearts: Carol Pinson and husband Reg, Peggy Manning Blanks, and Candy Pugh and husband Cole. She also dearly loved her nieces and nephews Jeff Pinson, Joel (Jude) Pinson, Blake Frye, Brandon (Mindy) Frye, Mandy Pugh, Jeanna (Tyler) Myers, and Daniel Pugh. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Betty Scheid.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the staff at CommonSpirit St. Anthony’s Hospital in her final days.

A private celebration of life will be held in September.
