When Michael “Mike” Adrian Sanchez departed from us, he left a legacy of love, humor and compassion. Mike, affectionately known as Mikey, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2026, at the age of 38 in Morehead City, NC while on a family vacation to the coast.
Born on March 16, 1988, in Whittier, CA, Mike was the beloved husband of Krista Shoufer-Sanchez and the cherished son of Julia “Julie” Ann and Luis “Louie” Adrian Sanchez. Krista and Mike were newlyweds, married on Valentine’s Day, 2026. Mike was known for his calm, laid-back presence and a witty sense of humor. He had a knack for making everyone around him feel safe and taken care of.
An avid music listener, Mike played bass and trumpet in bands during high school and loved going to concerts with his wife, Krista, and brother, Bob. He embraced life with an easygoing energy—whether playing disc golf, traveling with Krista, or hosting D&D games with close friends. He regularly attended the Colorado Renaissance faire, enjoying the merriment with many friends and family. Mike also treasured his time with his dog, Dora. Mike was a voracious reader of fantasy and sci-fi, particularly the writings of Frank Hurbert and his Dune series. Mike and Krista were the best of friends and you could see the tremendous amount of love they shared when you noticed them together, for their smiles and energy lit up the room.
He attended Don Lugo High School and later served in the U.S. Army as an aircraft technician, receiving numerous medals. He became disabled while in service and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, his attention to detail led him to a career in architecture as a project manager at Elward Systems then tech lead and BIM manager at J. R. Harris & Company.
Mike will be remembered for how he so empathetically cared for others, his dark and hilarious sense of humor, and his way of making you feel valued.
Mike is survived by his wife, Krista; brother, Robert “Bob”; his son, Eros and his godson, Luka. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julie and Louie. He will be missed by all who loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, starting at 9:00 am for a private viewing for family and close relations, followed by a service open to the public starting at 10:00 a.m. Services will be held at: Stork-Morley Funerals and Cremation 1895 Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80214

He loved to remind me how annoying I am. He one time said “ omg celina you’re like a chihuahua!” ( because I’m so chatty/ hyper) Haha I took it as a compliment 😉
I loved how much he loved cars. Something our fathers instilled in us. I loved how smart he was. How talented he was in music. I always considered him the “cool” cousin. He had such a big heart. He’s the first person who explained to me what an Empath was.
Above all I will miss his laugh, he had a perfect laugh.
I loved cuz so much. His memories will live on in us. And he will never be forgotten.
