It is with the saddest of hearts that we share the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ronald E. Hakanson. Born in 1938 in Chadron, Nebraska, Ron moved to Colorado at the age of four, beginning a lifelong journey rooted in family, kindness, and ingenuity.

Ron built an extraordinary career as an engineer at Martin Marietta, where he dedicated nearly 40 years to innovation and excellence. His work earned him numerous awards and the respect of colleagues who valued his dedication, sharp mind, and tireless work ethic.

After settling in Denver, Ron married the love of his life, Frances Sue Engel. Together they built a home full of warmth, laughter, and enduring love. With Frances by his side, Ron raised four children, celebrating every milestone and cherishing the growing generations that followed, including numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His pride in their accomplishments was matched only by the joy he found in their company.

Ron and Frances shared countless adventures in their motor home, always accompanied by their beloved cats. Whether exploring the beauty of the United States or venturing abroad, they found joy not just in travel, but in connecting with friends and creating new memories. Their weekend ritual of garage sales and leisurely Sunday drives showcased their love of simplicity and quiet discovery, especially those moments spent watching people and dogs pass by in serene places.

A man of many interests, Ron found fulfillment in tinkering, fixing things, restoring old cars, and building with his hands. His genuine kindness made him unforgettable to all who met him, he could spark a conversation and a friendship in a single moment. Ron knew all his neighbors by name and kept close contact with lifelong friends who treasured him just as dearly.

To his family, Ron was the heart of their circle; the mentor, the constant, the steady presence in good times and bad. His encouragement shaped the lives of his children, and his love enveloped every grandchild and great-grandchild lucky enough to know his embrace.

Ron Hakanson’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave. His family will carry him always in their hearts, forever proud, forever grateful.

Ron’s service will be held on Tuesday, August 12th at 1:00 pm at Village Calvary Church, 4550 E 128th Ave, Thornton, Colorado
