Resided in: Golden, Colorado

Barbara Alice (Parrott) Hilburn of Golden, Colorado passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025.  Barbara was born on October 7, 1937 in Gary, Indiana to Ben and Grace Parrott.  The family moved to Colorado when she was young, where she attended South High School in Denver and graduated in 1955. She worked for Central Bank of Denver for several years before marrying Robert (Bob) Hilburn on March 18, 1962.  In May 1963, they welcomed their first son David into the family and she became a homemaker and mother. January 1966 brought their second son Eric into the family.  In October 1973, they welcomed their final son Matthew home.  Barbara continued to raise the family while Robert was off to Chicago for several years in 1976, training at Northwestern University in the course of his job at the Denver Police Department.  In the early 1980s, Barbara took a reception job at Spyderco Knives in Golden.  She worked there until the mid-1990s where she retired as the Office Manager and returned to the home life.  Barbara enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially in her rose garden.  Cats were always a part of her life, and she enjoyed many over the years. She attended and volunteered at Applewood Baptist Church regularly.  After Bob retired in 2003, they spent time working around the house and making memories together until his passing on August 4, 2016. Barbara was diagnosed with dementia in 2015 and eventually Alzheimer’s disease.

She is survived by her sisters Carole (Dwayne) Butcher of Worthington MN, and Gail (Randy) Cavanah of San Diego CA, sons David (Kim), Eric, and Matt, all of Lakewood CO, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org in dedication of Barbara.

  1. Sorry. I got cut off. I did not know Barbara, but may she rest in peace also. Condolences to her family.

  2. Barbara was my oldest sister by 16 years. Growing up I always thought she was “cool.” She often drove me to elementary school and came with our mother to many of my school events. She also taught me how to drive. While her journey with dementia brought challenges, those who knew her will always remember Barbara, as well as Bob, as generous givers of their time and resources. They volunteered at church and donated generously to various organizations. She had impeccable taste and her home was always immaculate as well as welcoming. A woman of faith, my sister in a far better place today — Heaven. Barbara was a firm believer in Jesus Christ, whose life was marked by a spirit that touched everyone she met.

  3. Did not know Barbara, however; her loving sister (Gail) and brother in law (Randy) spoke of her quite often with so much love. Heartfelt condolences to all of the family.

  4. May heaven rejoice upon her arrival. Godspeed, farewell and rest in comfort now in the arms of the lord my aunt Barbara.
