Myra Lewis

Myra Lewis, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Denver on 7/3/2023. Born in Taunton, MA, she lived a life defined by generosity, resilience, and a sense of humor and adventure. She started her career as a medical secretary before pursuing a career in nursing. She married the late Russell Lewis in 1976 and spent time in Denver, CO before moving to Houston, TX where they raised their family. Her caring nature was passed down to her 3 daughters: Jocelyn Lewis of Fairfax, VA; Dana Watson of Denver, CO; and Kylie Lewis of Houston, TX. She is survived by her sister Shari Polikoff of Taunton, MA as well as her 4 grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart. Myra was preceded in death by her loving husband Russell Lewis in 2009.

Beyond being a devoted wife and mother, Myra was known for her zest for life which was evident in her many travels, involvement in numerous social clubs, and wanting to make the most of every moment. She was actively involved in the PTA when her children were in school, loved hosting bridge clubs and book clubs, and made friends everywhere she went. Myra found joy in the mountains of Colorado and peace while spending time at the beach. Myra’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

A small, family gathering will be held at the Dillon Cemetery on August 6 at 2:00 pm and a Celebration of Life service will be held at Temple Sinai in Houston, Texas at 2:00 pm on August 13. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Summit County Library Foundation to celebrate her love of reading and the mountains.

Guestbook

  1. My cousin Myra will be remembered by my family. May she rest in peace. There was a major error in her obituary, they forgot to mention her sister Shari Polikoff who lives in Taunton, Mass. Major error!

  2. Doing things together with my Aunt Myra was so fun. She always had a cheerful laugh and love for adventure which I so loved in her. She also always made an effort to be with family. I will deeply miss my dear Aunt!

  3. Myra was a fun member of our Houston Bunco group. She was sweet, thoughtful & always smiling. We will miss her.

  4. Myra and I have been friends for 41 years. We bonded over our dislike of Houston right after we both moved there. Connie, Myra and I were planning another one of our life adventures on the day she passed on her own heavenly adventure. We were all going to go to Napa and enjoy the wine as well as go on the Napa Wine Train. Connie and I toasted Myra many times on that recent trip On July 3-7. We missed her and celebrated her.

"What made us friends in the long ago where we first met? Well. I think I know: The best in me and the best in you hailed each other because they knew that always and always since life began our being friends was part of God's plan".

I thank God for Myra in my life, friends you grow old with and watch each other's children grow up, are the best friends.

Myra and Connie came out to share my 71st birthday in October 2021 and again we had the best of times, a lot of good food, good wine, and laughs with good old friends!

My sympathy to the 3 girls as I call them for a wonderful mother and friend. JOAN
